I'll explain why something like the VDU/VSU device doesn't excite me much:
1: Exessive complexity.
2: Heavy load on processor for I/O tasks
3: Heavy load on memory traffic.
In the end you have a lot of power consumption and extremely high hardware complexity for very little gain (SNES level graphics is it really worth it?)...
I think at most two video cards in parallel would be acceptable.
You followed the HW pictures ? All you need to do that is mix the video output of the video chips using Y/S signal
This VDU hardware is just an practical exercise of superimpose hardware implementation.
How about use 3 VDPs to get 8bit R, 8bit G and 8 bit B ? 3xV9938 + VIDEO DAC chip = 24 bit color. Edité par l_oliveira Le 25/03/2015 à 00h26

I agree about complexity and energy versus result on screen. BTW the goal is the challenge
Thanks you for the validation of my technical analyse (see the PDF I've posted on this thread).
The interesting point about the VDU/VSU. Is that people still able to use standard MSX BASIC to drive de multiple VDP by only adding a OUT command to select the right VDP for access.
I think that it's fun and easy to get multilayer bitmap display, but the sprite capability still not at a good level, sprite of V9990 P1 mode are by far a better solution to me.

Eng:
Best solution would be NEW VDP(V9958 compatible) with DMA capability built in and expanded (new) functions.
That is what SEGA did with Master System when expanded into Mega Drive.

TurboSEB :
